Dear Valued Sibername Customer;

We are very happy to inform you that we have made a long term agreement with our 3rd party Privacy protection solution provider to continue offering the Privacy Protection Service free of charge.

Therefore the email we sent earlier below is no longer valid; This means a savings of $6.00 or more for every domain name registered with us.

Please also note we do have a promotion on .COM domain names for the month of June 2014. It is only $9.95 CAD instead of $13.95 for the first year. And that comes with free privacy protect, 1-page website and hosting and also 2 free personalized emails.

(These features are offered with every domain name registered with us. $100.00+ CAD Value)

Warmest Regards;

The Following email was sent earlier and no longer Valid

Please note: this update does not apply to .ca domain names, only
to other domain name extensions registered through SiberName such as
.com, .org, .net and so on. .ca domain names are privacy protected at the registry
level. Therefore the service is going to remain a free service. If you have registered a
domain name with us with a different extension than .ca, please read the
announcement below:

End of Free Privacy Service as of May 15, 2014

In light of the fact that the overhead costs of providing the Privacy Protect
Service have increased substantially due to the changes in ICANN’s policy,
we will be charging a fee of $6.00 CAD per domain name per year for our
Privacy Protect service beginning on the 15th of May, 2014.

We’ve done market research and have noted that most of the popular
domain and hosting providers offer paid privacy protection for as high as $10 or
even more!
For reference, here’s a look at what other registrars charge for
paid privacy protection per domain per year:

  • Enom $10.00
  • Network Solutions $9.99
  • Register.com $11.00

How will this work?

  • The annual fee of $6.00 CAD will be applicable on all Privacy Protect
activations and renewals starting 15th May, 2014.

  • For domain names that are already registered and use the Privacy Protect
service, no charge shall be levied until the domain name expires, or until
the next renewal, whichever is comes first. At the time of renewal of the
domain name, the customer will have the flexibility of not renewing
Privacy Protect along with the domain name.

  • For domain names that are already registered and do not use the Privacy
Protect service, upon activation of this service, charges shall be applied
on a pro-rata basis until the domain expires.

  • For any new domain registrations opting for the Privacy Protection service,
pricing will be charged to the registrant.

  • The expiry date of the Privacy Protect service will be set to match the
expiry date of the domain name it is associated with.

  • Once Privacy Protect has been purchased for a domain, the service can
be activated or de-activated any number of times at no extra cost until
the expiry date of the initial purchase or deletion of the domain. This
could be useful in cases of Whois verification for SSL encryption.

Is there a Workaround to hide sensitive data and not pay for the privacy service?

One of the following solutions might help you hide your sensitive data and not pay for the service:

Renew your domain names before May 15, 2014:

  • Since the paid privacy will start with the renewal of a domain name,
the longer the domain name is renewed, the later the payment starts.

  • A DOMAIN NAME CAN BE REGISTERED / RENEWED UP TO 10 YEARS.

If your concern for privacy relates to your email being harvested:

  • You can sign up for a free email such as gmail.com, yahoo.com or zoho.com for registrations. Hotmail.com is not recommended due to the fact that renewal emails are placed in bulk very often.
  • You can check your new email regularly to see if you need to take any
action for any of your domain names.

  • Or you can register/renew your domain name for up to 10 years
without worrying about losing it for not reading renewal reminder
    emails.

If you do not like to show your home address in the Whois:

  • You can use your office address or a post box you use for your
business, or any physical address you think is safe to use and real.
Registries do not send snail mails to the physical addresses and
therefore you would not lose any important notification.

If you do not want to show your name in the Whois:

  • It is unfortunately not possible to use a fake name because this
would cause you to lose the domain name registration rights. As a
workaround, you may want to use your company name as the
registrant. If you have dozens of domain names, it may make sense to
form a company and register them under the company name.

PLEASE NOTE: ICANN also requires us to verify updated admin emails and physical addresses.

Please make sure you verify the registration or domain name admin update by following the instructions sent to the admin email address.

Also, make sure the physical address used is an actual address.

Please refer to http://www.icann.org/en/resources/co…t-verification
for more details about our obligations as a registrar to verify the email and
physical addresses in order to comply with the ICANN Registrar Agreement and stay
accredited.

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.
