Understanding the roles of service providers

The three Rs of the domain industry

In the domain name industry the three Rs have an entirely different meaning.

Registrant
That’s you. You are the one who has registered the domain name.

Registrar
That’s your service provider. This is the company that you paid and registered your .CA with. It is also the organization that will help you change information about your domain name, such as the administrator contact information, payment information, or technical details, like name server addresses. To find a Registrar visit the .CA Marketplace.

Registry

That’s us. The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) is the safe, stable, and trusted entity tasked with maintaining the integrity of the Canadian .CA domain extension and to help keep the Internet working for all domain name holders and their customers.

A video has been uploaded to Youtube at http://cira.ca/ca-websites/how-to-register-a-domain-name/threeRs/ for you to view.
