Weebly Website Builder Update
We wanted to let you know about a cool new feature that is being released to Weebly Website Builder Cloud tomorrow morning (April 14th, Pacific Time). Because this does impact the experience for a new user, as well as existing users in a small way, I wanted to make sure that you were aware, and had a chance to ask any questions you might have
So, what’s this all about?
Coming to Weebly Cloud on Thursday April 14th, 2016
What is it?
Theme Merchandising is a revised new-site onboarding experience that shows the users tailored theme examples based on vertical groups (eg. Portfolio, Online Store). When a user selects a theme they like, their site will have the background image from the gallery pre-populated on the site. Behind the scenes, they are still the same responsive and flexible Weebly themes, but are visually more engaging to new signups. Our data has shown a significant increase in publish rates and conversion by using this onboarding method.
In addition to the new site onboarding flow, this method will also be used in-Editor via the Theme Gallery, so moving forward, users with existing sites will see this system when selecting a new theme. The options for viewing Recent, and Custom themes will not change.
What does it look like?
This is what will be presented to new users in onboarding, as well as in the Theme Gallery:
Do I have to use this?
Unless you want to create and host your own theme gallery (which is completely doable with the Weebly Cloud API), yes, this will be the default for all newly onboarded users.
Can I customize this?
At this time, no. We hope to one day open our Theme Gallery up to partners, allowing you to customize what is shown and in what order, but that is not currently part of our roadmap.
